Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

The programme combines household water purification using P&G water-treatment sachets.

About This Project

In partnership with Procter & Gamble (P&G), AiRD implements a two-track approach to safe water in Kenya: school and household water purification using P&G Purifier of Water materials, and solar-powered borehole systems that deliver piped safe water to rural communities.

Objectives

  • Reduce waterborne disease, particularly among school-going children
  • Improve access to safe drinking water and promote household hygiene using P&G water purification products.

Key Activities

  • Procurement, demonstration and distribution of P&G water purification products to rural households, schools and vulnerable communities to prevent waterborne diseases, including cholera.
  • Water treatment demonstrations in schools and households

  • Makueni
  • Kitui
  • Embu
  • Kirinyaga

Reported Impact

  • Over 300 million litres of clean, safe water provided.
  • 100,000 households reached through P&G sachets
  • 6,000 households — approximately 36,000 people reached
