About this programme

In partnership with Procter & Gamble (P&G), AiRD implements a two-track approach to safe water in Kenya: school and household water purification using P&G Purifier of Water materials, and solar-powered borehole systems that deliver piped safe water to rural communities.

Objectives

  • Improve access to clean, safe drinking water in rural and vulnerable communities.
  • Promote household hygiene practices and community livelihoods.
  • Reduce waterborne disease, particularly among school-going children.

  • Procurement and distribution of P&G water purification materials.
  • Water treatment demonstrations in schools and households.
  • Drilling, piping and distribution of solar-powered borehole water.
  • Hygiene promotion and community water governance.

Impact so far

  • Over 300 million litres of clean, safe water provided.
  • 100,000 households reached through P&G sachets.
  • 6,000 households — approximately 36,000 people — reached through solar-powered boreholes.
