Empowering rural widows in Busia County with immediate basic needs support alongside entrepreneurship training, mentorship and microcredit.
About this project
The Nguzo Project supports poor and vulnerable rural women — especially widows — in Busia County. It begins with immediate interventions such as food, clothing and basic shelter, then develops entrepreneurial capacity through training, mentorship and microcredit so beneficiaries can start their own small businesses. The target is 1,000 widows.

Objectives
- Meet the immediate basic needs of poor and vulnerable rural women.
- Develop entrepreneurial skills through training and mentorship.
- Provide microcredit for beneficiaries to start small businesses.
Key activities
- Mapping poor and vulnerable women, especially the old and widowed, in rural Busia County.
- Procurement and distribution of food, clothing and construction of basic houses.
- Training on basic business management practices.
- Minimal start-up capital and ongoing mentorship.
Impact so far
- 568 women have benefitted so far, against a target of 1,000 widows.
- The project is mobilising further resources to deepen its impact.
